A new form for an old craft.
The bags of the Buddhi label (2008) are a crossover between culture, fashion, and innovation in traditional crafts. Designed by Kim van Beek (founder) and handmade –fairtrade- by the Association for Craft producers in Nepal. Buddhi’s philosophy is designing innovative fashion items based on (traditional) Asian cultures and crafts. The bags are handmade of felt. Felt is made of wool and created by the traditional craft of felting. With pressure and movement of the hands, warm water and soap one creates the fabric felt. The whole production process is available on www.buddhi.nl/nepal. The bags are produced in a factory with skilled and experienced craftsmen – mostly women- to ensure a high quality felt. The material is strong, water resistant and durable; is has been used for centuries for roofs of Mongolian nomadic yurts.
